Youth & Teen Activities

Bubble Soccer – NEW!
Fee: $250 for 2 hours ($50 per additional hour)
Ages: Must be 12 years or older
What’s included: 10 bubbles (for 2 teams of 5), 2 soccer balls and 2 goals, shin guards, Bubble Soccer supervisor/referee

Run, kick, SLAM! Carmichael Recreation & Park District is excited to announce that it now has Bubble Soccer available to rent for your next birthday, picnic or company retreat. Bubble soccer is played similarly to soccer, except the field is smaller and everyone is outfitted with a bubble. The bubble allows for pushing and bouncing off one another making for an intense, fun and exhilarating experience! Bubble Soccer is available at the La Sierra Community Center, Carmichael Park, Del Campo Park, Jan Park, O’Donnell Heritage Park, and Glancy Oaks Park.

Fun age appropriate Karate classes designed to teach kids and teenagers focus, respect, self discipline, self defense, antibullying tactics, improve body strengthening, coordination, leadership, confidence and traditional Shotokan Kata.

Piano Lessons – NEW!
Fee: $100(R) / $110(NR) for 4 lessons; $25-$30 materials fee due at first class

Are you interested in learning to play the piano? We are offering piano lessons to all ages beginning at 4.5 years old and up! Lessons are 30 minutes long and consist of time spent on technique, theory, note reading and more as the student progresses. Monica enjoys tailoring the time and lessons to the students needs and desires while making music learning, fun and enjoyable.

Preschool Hip-Hop Tap – NEW!

This is a great high energy dance for your preschooler. For 45 minutes they will learn the basic beginner taps steps and fun hip hop moves all while having fun! Not only will they be able to socialize with children their age but they will also learn how to participate in a group setting. Must wear comfortable attire. Tap shoes required.

Baby Ballet & Gymnastics

This class is a parent participation class where children learn gymnastics and dance (movement) through nursery rhymes and fun songs. Gymnastics is the foundation of all sports and ballet is the foundation of all dance, why not put them together? Children will work on coordination and balance in a fun and exciting atmosphere.

Creative Movement
Fee: $40(R) / $44(NR), 4 weeks

This class will incorporate rhythms and movement from across the globe allowing dancers to explore many cultures. Whether your child dreams of being a dancer or a doctor, a ballerina or a biologist, the foundations of movement will help build self confidence and enhance social and cognitive abilities.

Mommy/Daddy & Me Playdate
Fee: $32(R) / $35(NR), 4 weeks; $20(R) / $22(NR), 3 weeks
Ages: 18 months – 3 years

This is a non-structured playdate that includes toddlers and their parents and/or participating family members/caretakers. We focus on group activities, sing-alongs, book readings, dances, warm ups and much more. This class lets your toddler explore their social, physical and creative abilities in a group setting. Must be registered with a caregiver.

Introduction To Guitar-Part 1
Fee: $115(R) / $126(NR) 6 weeks; $10 materials fee due at first class
Ages: 12 & up
Time: 6PM – 6:45PM
Thursdays: 6/14 – 7/19

The Sacramento Guitar Society is offering this 6-week introductory class, teaching students tuning, playing position, musical symbols, notes in first position, rhythms through eighth notes, chords, reading, scales, finger picking, strumming and simple repertoire.

Students must have a guitar (nylon string acoustic guitars are recommended to facilitate the fingerpicking lessons). The Sacramento Guitar Society will offer a loaner guitar, with a refundable security deposit of $100.

Introduction To Guitar-Part 2
Fee: $115(R) / $126(NR) 6 weeks; $10 materials fee due at first class

The Sacramento Guitar Society is offering this 6-week introductory class, a continuation of the Part 1 class, reinforcing concepts taught and teaching additional songs. Students who already have a foundational knowledge of the basics of the instrument are welcome to enroll in this Part 2 class.

Students must have a guitar (nylon string acoustic guitars are recommended to facilitate the fingerpicking lessons). The Sacramento Guitar Society will offer a loaner guitar, with a refundable security deposit of $100.

Babysitting Safety
Includes Infant, Child & Adult CPR Certification
Fee: $40(R) / $44(NR); $40 lab fee due at first class

This two-day Babysitting Safety class provides basic information for babysitters such as choke management, child safety, play, feeding, diapering, emergencies and more. Upon successful course completion, each student will receive a 2 year certificate for Child and Babysitting Safety and Infant, Child and Adult CPR.

The focus of the children’s reading programs, (Levels 00-11 listed below) is to develop a love of reading. Skill development that provides for increased fluency and comprehension is also emphasized. The adult program, (Level 20 below) improves reading efficiency. To that end, eye-tracking exercises, retention techniques and
systematic analytical approaches are taught. All classes are at La Sierra Community Center in Room 800.

Tennis Program

Munchkins Tennis

Beginning Youth Tennis

Sacramento Junior Tennis Fund Award
CRPD is proud to have been awarded the Junior Tennis Fund of Sacramento’s 2016 grant. The award enables us to provide a limited amount of scholarships for our youth tennis program for qualifying Carmichael residents Scholarships cover 100% of the program fees. Kidz Love Soccer

Tot/Pre-Soccer

Enjoy running and kicking just like the big kids! Learn the basic techniques of the game while building self-esteem and learning to follow instructions in a nurturing teaching environment. Soccer 1: Techniques & Teamwork

Learn dribbling, passing, defense, and shooting goals. Fun skill games are played at every session, and every participant will have a ball at his or her feet. Small-sided soccer matches will be introduced gradually. Perfect for first time players while being fun and engaging for kids with some experience. All participants receive a Kids Love Soccer jersey! Please Note: Shin guards are required after the first meeting.

Soccer 2: Skillz & Scrimmages

Have a great time while developing core soccer skills like dribbling, passing and shooting in a team play format. Mad Science of Sacramento Summer Camps

Spy Academy

Look out 007-the Mad Science Spy Academy is here! From message decoding to metal detectors and night vision, campers will have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and even create their own edible message. Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Figure out the science of forensics in a hands-on look at crime scenes. Become a super spy and learn clever ways of performing tasks as we take a hands-on view of the science that spies use. The take-homes for this camp were designed specially by Q himself!

NASA – Journey Into Outer Space

Mad Science and NASA have teamed up to bring you the excitement and wonder of space in this new voyage of discovery. See the principles of thrust and propulsion at work in a real rocket launch. Explore the atmosphere on earth and beyond. Watch star dust burn, and journey through a galaxy as you investigate the life cycle of stars. Explore the farthest reaches of our solar system and create a lunar eclipse in the “mad” planetary tour. Probe the mysteries of meteors and bounce around satellite light as you learn about space phenomena. Experience the life of an astronaut as you suit up for a space flight and then perform spacecraft repairs. This is an experience that is truly out of this world!

Science Rockstars

Get ready to rock with science and wow the crowd with cool potions and chemical reactions. Grow your own crystals, make sidewalk chalk, and a chromatography t-shirt to keep. Picture yourself on stage as Sir Isaac Newton as we experiment with inertia and gravity and learn what football players, ballet dancers and scientists have in common. Explore how equipment and movement work together to help you enjoy your favorite sports. Then learn all about visual effects in photography and movie-making as we examine how cameras work, how film captures light and stores images, and how filmmakers make images move. Finally, go mad with structures and machines as you build a geodesic dome you can sit inside. Discover how simple machines such as pulleys, wedges, screws and levers make our lives easier and then build a catapult to keep.

The Force Awakens in this advanced engineering course for young Jedi! Discover key engineering concepts such as gear trains, worm drives, pneumatics, and eccentric motion. Build projects using LEGO® materials such as X-Wings, ATAT walkers, Pod Racers, Star Destroyers, Cloud Cities, Settlements, Fortresses, and other complex machines and structures from a galaxy far, far away.
